Attention all Archons, and Archons of the Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese, ARCHON NEWS -- His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America noted with great sorrow the falling asleep in the Lord of Metropolitan Nicholas of Amissos, the Bishop of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the USA. Metropolitan Nicholas fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, March 13, 2011, the Sunday of Orthodoxy and the 28th anniversary of his ordination to the episcopacy.

ERIE-TIMES NEWS -- An Orthodox church in Erie has lost its ruling bishop to cancer.Metropolitan Nicholas Smisko, 75, spiritual leader of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the U.S.A., died Sunday. The Johnstown-based diocese includes St. Nicholas Orthodox Church on East Avenue in Erie.

BEAVER COUNTY TIMES -- The highest-ranking official of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese, who included St. John the Baptist Church in Ambridge among his parishes, died Sunday in Johnstown. Metropolitan (a title similar to archbishop) Nicholas Smisko, 75, died of cancer, according to the diocese website. He was consecrated as a bishop in 1983 and as metropolitan in 1997.

TRIBUNE-DEMOCRAT --JOHNSTOWN — Friends, parishioners, clergy and members of the Johnstown community will gather today to celebrate the life of Metropolitan Nicholas Smisko. The longtime leader of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the U.S.A. died Sunday of cancer at Windber Hospice.
