Prayer Before Reading Holy Scripture
O Master Who loves mankind, illuminate our hearts with the pure light of Your divine knowledge and open the eyes of our mind to understand the teachings of Your Gospel. Instill in us also the fear of Your blessed commandments, that we may overcome all carnal desires, entering upon a spiritual life and understanding and acting in all things according to Your holy will. For You are the enlightenment of our souls and bodies, O Christ God, and to You we give glory together with Your eternal Father and Your all-holy, gracious and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen.
Epistle Reading: Romans 9:1-5
I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also
bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,
that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart.
For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh,
who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises;
of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.

Gospel Reading: Matthew 9:18-26
While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came
and worshiped Him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay
Your hand on her and she will live."
So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.
And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment;
for she said to herself, "If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well."
But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, "Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour.
And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing,
He said to them, "Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping." And they laughed Him to scorn.
But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose.
And the report of this went out into all that land.
