Advent Mission Project 2016 (4/16/16)

On Saturday April 16, 2016, National Sr. ACRY President Kevin Coffman, at the Eastern Regional Diocesan Lenten Retreat, made a presentation on behalf of the National Sr. ACRY to Fr. Michael Chendorain, Pastor of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church of Perth Amboy, NJ. for the benefit of the Fr. Michael Rosco Memorial, Habitat for Humanity Building Project.

Fr Michael received, on behalf of the parish, a check for $16,133.00 which represented the proceeds of the Diocesan Advent Mission Project that was spearheaded by the National ACRY. These funds along with a generous $5000 grant from the Kulis Foundation and other fundraising endeavors have raised thus far a grand total raised for this worthy cause of over $32,000.00! Also seven members of our Diocesan family have agreed to serve on a construction team, thus far.

The goal of the building project is to cover the entire cost of building a home to be built in the Summer of 2016 for a deserving family in Mandeville, LA where Fr. Michael, working with IOCC Relief teams, assisted with 3 similar building projects in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It was through his initial efforts that the Diocese saw an increased awareness and participation in hands-on mission work. That work continues to this day.
