The Diocesan Stewardship Commission

Sacred scripture tells us that we  have been created in the image and likeness of God.  Knowing that everything we possess is a result of the blessing and goodness of God,  as Orthodox Christians  we are called  to wisely manage the  gifts of time, talent and treasure for His glory and for the building up of His Body, the Church.  Recognizing the need to educate and encourage the faithful of the Diocese  to discern and utilize their god-given talents for the Glory of Almighty God.  His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas  established in August of 2009 the Diocesan Stewardship Commission, under the chairmanship of Rev. Stewardship Blog

In July of 2014, the Stewardship Commission instituted a  series of weekly blog entries on Stewardship and the Orthodox Life. These short articles are provided to assist the parishes and faithful of the Diocese to increase both a personal and Church-wide understanding of the principles of Christian Stewardship, and how to integrate them on the personal, parish and Diocesan levels. By prayerfully reading and considering their content it will provide an opportunity to gain a fuller insight into the ways that God’s love and grace operate in our lives.

Educational Resources

The first fruits of the Diocesan Stewardship Commission, has been the creation and gathering of educational materials for personal and parish reflection which has resulted in the production of  resource guidebookS: STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE I that was distributed at the 2010 Diocesan Council in Johnstown and STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE II that was released at the 2013 Diocesan Council.

These materials, in written and multi-media format,  introduce the proposed Stewardship Mission Statement of our Diocese, and  provide a theological reflection on that Mission Statement. The main body of materials include sermons and sermon ideas for the clergy, youth stewardship materials, Bible studies, and stewardship materials garnered from other Christian bodies whose insights may be helpful in our own stewardship education. These are suitable for individual use as well as in group educational settings. It is our hope that these materials will draw the clergy and faithful of our diocesan parishes - and through them, our Diocese as a whole - into a deeper understanding and practice of Christian stewardship as 'A Way of Life.'
