Holy Myrrhbearers Orthodox Mission Celebrates Their First Divine Liturgy
September 27, 2009
PORTSMOUTH, VA - - Holy Myrrhbearers Orthodox Mission of Portsmouth, Virginia, celebrated their first Divine Liturgy today. The pastor of Holy Myyrhbearers, the Rev. Fr. Maximus Tatum, was assisted by Seminarian Ruiari, and Maria Murray (acting Cantor), along with their two sons and daughter, all of who traveled all the way from Nativity of Our Lord Orthodox Church in Manassas, VA. Several additional Orthodox families from Manassas, and the local area, also came and worshipped with us. In addition, several persons traveled from as far away as Florida, just to be in attendance during our first Divine Liturgy. Much to the delight of everyone, a total of 27 souls were in attendance.
Also exciting was the addition of two new members to the Orthodox Church! Mr. Michael (Jeff) Barbour and Mr. James (Mike) Harden were Chrismated into the Church the day before, after spending the last several months attending catechism classes with Fr. Maximus. Welcome home James and Michael!
