Eternal Memory: + Audrey Rumbold

JOHNSTOWN, PA - [Diocesan Chancery] -- With profound sadness the Diocesan Chancery announces that Audrey Rumbold, the mother of Pani Yvonne Lysack, reposed in the Lord on Monday, March 14, 2022 after a brief illness.

Audrey was born in Ramsgate, Kent, England. As a young child, she was evacuated several times during WWII and never forgot the pain of being "abandoned" by her parents with only a name tag around her neck and of lining up so that reluctant host families could take their pick of children. She always understood, however, that her parents had made the wisest choice to keep her and her younger sister safe. After the war, as a young woman, Audrey trained as a florist. In the early years of their marriage, Audrey and Dave immigrated to Canada so that Dave could work on the famed Avro Arrow project, and after the latter was halted, Dave joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. The family followed Dave on his postings to Europe during the Cold War era, when there was fear of Russian nuclear attacks, and son Ian was born in Zweibrücken, Germany. Once back in Canada in 1968, Audrey returned to the floral business. She managed several flower shops and later the floral design centre of Fines Flowers. She had the privilege of making several presentation bouquets for Her Majesty The Queen. Audrey's convivial personality made her a natural co-host for gatherings of Dave's rifle shooting colleagues in both Canada and the U.K. Late in life, she found a spiritual home in the Orthodox Church. Audrey will be remembered for her exquisite floral designs, her feisty sense of humour, and her sacrificial love of her family. When saying goodbye to a child or grandchild, she never failed to add, "Love you buckets!" May her memory be eternal, and may she rest in peace.

Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Horace "Tim" and Florence (née Robinson) Solly. Sister of Constance Gilham and Yvonne Handby (Doug). Aunt of Paul Gilham, Richard Gilham, Michelle Harrison, Denise Lawley, and Tracy Williams.

Audrey was the wife of Maj. (Ret'd.) David W. Rumbold. Mother of Matushka Yvonne Lysack (Fr. Maxym), Joanne "Rivkah" Shabsove (Joseph), and Ian Rumbold. Grandmother of Anastasia "Tasya" and Yuliana Lysack, Jacqueline Fine (Dovid), and Véronique and Cédrik Rumbold. Great-grandmother of Akiva and Ayelet Fine.

Funeral Services are as follows:
