JOHNSTOWN, PA - [Diocesan Chancery] -- With profound sadness the Diocesan Chancery announces that Sally Ellis, the wife of Deacon Charles Ellis and the mother of Rev. Fathers George and Michael Ellis, peacefully reposed in the Lord on Wednesday March 16, 2022 with her family by her side.

Sally was born in Binghamton, NY on July 26th, 1940, and was predeceased by her infant son, Patrick M. Ellis, her parents, James and Norma Stevens, her stepfather, Burton Chamberlain and her siblings, Margaret Miller, Evelyn Lewis and James Stevens, Jr. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Fr. Deacon Charles Ellis, Sr., her children Charles E. Ellis, Jr. (Julie), Victoria M. Bennett, Cynthia A. Jones (Robert), Rebecca L. Cooper (Shawn), Fr. Michael J. Ellis (Jesica) & Fr. George E. Ellis (Sarah); along with 17 cherished grandchildren & 6 great-grandchildren, her beloved sister, Geraldine Allen and her dear best friends, Shirley Demick and Helen Campbell. Sally loved all her many nieces & nephews, along with her church family & friends. Her companion pug, Kiki, was always seen by her side.

Early in life, she worked as a legal secretary, and she was employed by Binghamton Parks & Recreation; she served as a leader for Girl Scouts of USA. She was an active member of St. Michael’s for decades, on the Church Parish Council, School Guild, and as the Advisor of the Jr. ACRY. For many years, she assisted her son, Fr. Michael at Camp Nazareth. She dedicated 35 yrs. of her life to Foster Care with her husband by her side. Along with friendship of her girlfriends, she shared the joy of crafting & cooking. Her family and friends never went hungry. She was a master cook and loved to make traditional foods for everyone to enjoy! She dedicated her entire life to her beloved family.

The funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 22 at 10 AM at St. Michael Orthodox Church in Binghamton, NY, preceded by viewing at the Church from 9-10 AM.  A luncheon will follow in St. Michael’s Center.
