Advent Mission Project Raises Over $20,000 for the Fr. Michael Rosco Memorial Habitat for Humanity Building Project!

JOHNSTOWN, PA [National ACRY] The National Sr. ACRY is pleased to announce that the 2015 Advent Mission Project has raised over $20,000 in support of the Fr. Michael Rosco Memorial, Habitat for Humanity building project. These funds include a generous $5000 grant from the Kulis Foundation. With the proceeds of the Advent Mission Project, the grand total raised for this worthy cause as of today, is over $32,000.00! Also seven members of our Diocesan family have agreed to serve on a construction team, thus far.

This memorial building project is being spearheaded by the faithful of Fr. Michael’s former parish, St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church of Perth Amboy, NJ, in conjunction with International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC). Plans call for a home to be built in the Summer of 2016 for a deserving family in Mandeville, LA where Fr. Michael, working with IOCC Relief teams, assisted with 3 similar building projects in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It was through his initial efforts that the Diocese saw an increased awareness and participation in hands-on mission work. That work continues to this day.

Fr. Michael Chendorain, the coordinator of the Memorial Building Project has just received word that a local interfaith organization group in the St. Tammany West parish community in Louisiana has graciously offered to match dollar for dollar both what has been currently raised, and any additional funds received over the next several weeks.

His Grace Bishop Gregory, upon learning of the results of the Advent Mission Project and the generous matching funds challenge has encouraged those who have not already done so to jump in and help finish the project through their generous additional financial contributions and by offering to serve on the building team. At the present time ten additional volunteers are being sought..

Those parishes and individuals who have not already contributed, or those who wish to offer additional support are kindly asked to send their contributions to the following address:

St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church
