Construction Dates Set For Fr. Michael Rosco Memorial, Habitat For Humanity Building Project

JOHNSTOWN, PA -- The Diocesan Chancery wishes to provide the following update on the Fr. Michael Michael Rosco Memorial Habitat for Humanity Building Project, provided by  St. John The Baptist Church of Perth Amboy, NJ, the project coordinator.

St. John’s Church is pleased to announce the three 2016 build dates for this project in collaboration with IOCC and Habitat For Humanity (Tamany West) as follows:

1. Kickoff Build Week: Arrival - Monday June 06 - Departure - Saturday June 11
2. Middle Summer Build Week: Arrival - Monday July 18 - Departure - Saturday July 23
3. Final Summer Build Week: Arrival - Monday August 15 - Departure - Saturday August 20
4. Dedication Week: November / December 2016 (TBD)

In order to fully staff these weeks and close them off to the general public, 15 PEOPLE per week are needed to staff the site. Those who are unable to make these weeks but would like to participate are asked to contact Fr. Michael Chendorain. Clergy who wish to participate but are unable to do so because of obligations are asked to contact Fr. Michael Chendorain as well.

REGISTRATION: Will be done through IOCC and their website. At this time, the registration forms are not available but will be in the near future. This information is being distributed so that Diocesan faithful may begin to make plans that fit their schedules.

COST/LOGISTICS: The volunteer contribution is $450 per person which includes local transportation, room & board, materials, supplies, tools and site supervision. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, but 16 and 17 year olds are accepted if they are accompanied by their parent, legal guardian or an adult with a power-of-attorney to act on their behalf for the duration of the deployment. Individuals (or groups) are responsible to travel to the build city on their own, but ground transportation will be provided from the local airport(s) to the housing site.

Negotiations are underway for airfare out of Newark, NJ with a commercial carrier. Given the nature of the work we are hopeful for an accommodation. However, this is not a guaranteed prospect and we will keep everyone apprised.

Anyone with additional questions may contact Fr. Michael Chendorain at fathermikec@verizon.net or (732) 826-4442.

His Grace Bishop Gregory asks that the Parishes and Faithful of the Diocese support the National ACRY Advent Mission Project which has as its goal to  fund and staff the building program. The goal is to raise $75,000 and fully staff  three 15 person building teams .
