Diocesan Priest Leads Real Break Trip to Slovakia!
Johnstown, PA [Diocesan Chancery] -- Very Rev. Protopresbyter Luke Mihaly, Pastor of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of Danbury, CT and Dean of the New England Deanery, is presently leading an Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) Real Break Trip to St. Nicholas Children's Home in Mezilaborce, Slovakia, which is taking place through March 15, 2015.
The St. Nicholas Children’s Home was constituted in 1994 by the Orthodox Church in Presov. In that same year, the St. Nicholas Children’s Home also established a special kindergarten. In 2004, the St. Nicholas Remedial Home for underage mothers with their children was opened. Currently, 64 children live at the St. Nicholas Children’s Home. If the children have siblings, they are placed in the same living quarters with one another. All of the children at the St. Nicholas Children’s Home are divided into family groups.” In each of these groups there are four educators and one housewife. On site at the St. Nicholas Children’s Home there is also as school, dining hall, additional living quarters, and a chapel.
The team members, consisting of Orthodox Christian College Students, are experiencing life at the St. Nicholas Children’s Home through daily interactions with the young people who live there. The team is also be assisting with projects around St. Nicholas, including, working alongside the students during school time, small maintenance projects, and helping with tasks related to the “family groups.” Additionally, this Real Break team will have the opportunity to travel to the surrounding villages and visit many of the Orthodox Churches and museums that exist in this area.
