Scholarships Available for Diocesan Students Attending CrossRoad Orthodox Summer Institute

JOHNSTOWN, PA [Diocesan Chancery] -- The Diocesan Chancery is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2020 CrossRoad program.

CrossRoad is a ten-day academic summer institute that prepares high school juniors and seniors to make big life decisions and invites them to connect with the Orthodox Christian theological and spiritual tradition. Participants from all over the country come together to experience daily worship, take theology classes from some of the best professors in the country, visit local parishes, serve their neighbor, tour the city, and even spend a day at the beach.

Historically, CrossRoad has been hosted solely on the campus of Hellenic College Holy Cross. Again,this year, CrossRoad will also take place in Chicago! Read more...

ACRY Launches Second Annual Diocesan Wide Stewardship Drive

JOHNSTOWN, PA [Diocesan Chancery] -- In an Archpastoral Letter released today,  November 1, 2019,  His Eminence, Metropolitan Gregory has once again, enthusiastically endorsed a philanthropic initiative of the National American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Youth Organization, its second Annual Stewardship Drive to benefit charitable activities both within and outside of the Diocese. He has called upon all parishes of the Diocese to support this philanthropic endeavor of the National ACRY during the season of the Nativity Fast  (Advent) which will soon begin.  Read more...

Diocesan Youth Take On Hurricane Relief Outreach Project (Updated 10/5/19)

JOHNSTOWN, PA [National ACRY] --- With the blessing and enthusiastic support of His Eminence, Metropolitan Gregory of Nyssa, the National Junior and Senior ACRY has taken on the coordination of a Diocesan-wide outreach initiative to assist the International Orthodox Christian Charities in responding to the catastrophic devastation wrought by Hurricane Dorian which brought destruction to the Bahama’s and the south eastern coast of the United States. Hurricane Dorian caused over 7 billion dollars in damage and left thousands homeless.

In times of natural disaster, the IOCC has boots on the ground distributing hygiene kits which  provide basic hygiene supplies that more than likely were washed away in the torrential downpour. Due to the multiple, intense storms that have hit during the peak of this hurricane season, IOCC’s supply of hygiene kits have been depleted. Read more...

Fall Youth Encounter To Take Place At Camp Nazareth Nov 8-10, 2019

JOHNSTOWN, PA [National Jr ACRY] - The Annual Fall Youth Encounter will take place from Friday Nov 8 - Sunday Nov 10, 2019 at Camp Nazareth in Mercer, PA. The Encounter is sponsored by the National JR. ACRY and is open to youth ages 8-18. All Diocesan youth are invited and do not have to be a member of the JR. ACRY to attend.

The weekend will be full of fun activities, spiritual activities and time spent in one of the best places on earth. Come and bring a friend and experience all your faith and friendships have to offer in our Lord Jesus Christ!

The encounter will begin with arrival and registration on Friday, Nov 8th from 7:00 to 9:00pm and will conclude on Sunday Nov 10th, 2019 at Noon following the celebration of Divine Liturgy at 9:00 am and Brunch. Read more...

Eternal Memory: +Rev Paul Eugene Tobias

JOHNSTOWN, PA - With profound sadness the Diocesan Chancery announces that Rev Paul Eugene Tobias, the father of  Very Rev. Jonathan Tobias, reposed in the Lord on Sunday, September 22, 2019.

Ordained as a pastor in the Churches of God General Conference in 1959, The Rev. Paul ministered to nine congregations in Indiana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. After semi-retiring in 2001, he continued to serve as an interim pastor for several more congregations before taking on the role of visitation pastor at Kingwood Church, where he finally retired fully in 2016, as pastor emeritus. JOHNSTOWN, PA [Diocesan Chancery] - His Eminence, Metropolitan Gregory, as Secretary of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the USA, took part in a meeting of the Executive Committee on Wednesday September 18, 2019 at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in New York Cit. The hierarchs met under the chairmanship of Archbishop Elpidophoros, to discuss the state of Orthodox Christian unity in the USA. Recognizing the challenges in global Orthodoxy, the jurisdictional representatives reiterated their commitment to the local faithful of America and rededicated themselves to fulfilling the call for canonical normalcy and pastoral unity on contemporary issues. Diocesan Relief Effort Announced For Those Impacted by Hurricane Dorian

JOHNSTOWN, PA [Diocesan Chancery] -- His Eminence, Metropolitan Gregory, has called today for a relief effort throughout the Diocese to help those impacted by Hurricane Dorian.

All Diocesan Parishes are requested to take up a special  collection on Sunday, September 15.  All donations are to go directly to the International Orthodox Christian Charities.  Note: Donations are NOT to be sent  to the Diocesan Chancery. Read more...
