Prayer Before Reading Holy Scripture
O Master Who loves mankind, illuminate our hearts with the pure light of Your divine knowledge and open the eyes of our mind to understand the teachings of Your Gospel. Instill in us also the fear of Your blessed commandments, that we may overcome all carnal desires, entering upon a spiritual life and understanding and acting in all things according to Your holy will. For You are the enlightenment of our souls and bodies, O Christ God, and to You we give glory together with Your eternal Father and Your all-holy, gracious and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen.

For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be
But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord,
that we may not be condemned with the world.
Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat,
wait for one another.
But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest
you come together for judgment. And the rest I will set in order when I
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not
want you to be ignorant:
You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these
dumb idols, however you were led.
Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by
the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is
Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same
There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.
And there are diversities of activities, but it is the
same God who works all in all.

the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
"And whoever receives one little child like this in My name
"But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in
Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his
neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
"Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must
come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!
"And if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and
cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed,
rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting
"And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast
it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather
than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.
"Take heed that you do not despise one of these little
ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of
My Father who is in heaven.
"For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.
