Prayer Before Reading Holy Scripture
O Master Who loves mankind, illuminate our hearts with the pure light of Your divine knowledge and open the eyes of our mind to understand the teachings of Your Gospel. Instill in us also the fear of Your blessed commandments, that we may overcome all carnal desires, entering upon a spiritual life and understanding and acting in all things according to Your holy will. For You are the enlightenment of our souls and bodies, O Christ God, and to You we give glory together with Your eternal Father and Your all-holy, gracious and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen.

The Pharisees therefore said to Him, "You bear witness of

Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I bear witness of
Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am
going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.
"You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
"And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not
alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.
"It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men
"I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent
Me bears witness of Me."
Then they said to Him, "Where is Your Father?" Jesus answered, "
You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have
known My Father also."
These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the
temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.
