JOHNSTOWN, PA -- On Sunday December 19, 2010, Very Rev. Fr. Sam Sherry, the pastor of St Michael's Orthodox Church of Niles, IL was elevated to the priestly rank of Protopresbyter By His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas. The elevation of Fr. Sam took place during the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy for the Feast of St. Nicholas at Christ the Saviour Cathedral. In addition to Fr. Sam's family, he was joined by Readers and Deacons from throughout the diocese who were in attendance for the annual Readers and Deacons Retreat.
With the bestowal of the title, Very Rev. Protopresbyter, Fr. Sam was given the privilige of wearing the jeweled pectoral cross and the priest epigonation.
