Kursk Root Icon Makes Unexpected Visit to Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, PA-- On Friday, January 21, 2011, the Kursk-Root icon of the Mother of God made an unexpected visit to Johnstown. The Very Revered Archpriest Serge Lukianov and members of his family are accompanying this wonder-working icon throughout the United States. While in western Pennsylvania, they made a short trip to Johnstown in order to afford His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas the opportunity to venerate the icon.

The icon was received at the chapel of St. Peter the Apostle by Vladyka Nicholas, the Very Reverend Nicholas Ferencz, Deacon David Mastroberte, and the seminarians of Christ the Saviour Seminary. After the icon was enshrined in the chapel, the assembly sang the Tropar and Kondak of Theophany; the Marian hymn "Christians praise"; and "Mnohaja l'ita" for the guests.

Following this, Vladyka Nicholas hosted Fr. Serge and the guests at his residence. While the group could only stay for a short while, they were able to visit Christ the Saviour Cathedral, the diocesan chancery, and Christ the Saviour Seminary before departing for their next appointment.
