2001 Know Your Faith Educational Conference

JOHNSTOWN, PA - The following information regarding the 2001 Know Your Faith Educational Conference has been released by the Diocesan Religious Education Commission:
About the Conference:
This year's Educational Conference is open to all who
wish to learn
more about the Orthodox Faith. It will take place on
Saturday,
Sept 28, 2002 in the Main Lodge of Camp Nazareth, located at
339
Pew Road in Mercer, Pennsylvania. Camp Nazareth is
conveniently located off
Exit 2 of I-80 near the Ohio/Pennsylvania
border. The conference will begin
at 9:00 am and conclude at
4:00 pm.Lunch will be provided by the Camp
Nazareth Staff
Topics and Presenters:
1) Models of Faith: The
Saints as Teachers and Exemplars, The Rev. Fr. Jason DelVitto.
Fr. Jason will discuss the role of
Saints in the life of the Church, then and now. He will defend his tesis that
the Fathers and Saints of the Church were eucators of the world of their era and
that their teachings are still relevant for Orthodox Christians today.
Father Jason serves as a priest in
the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese since his ordination in 1978and is currently
pastor of St. George's Orthodox Church, Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. Father Jason
is a graduate of St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary and is currently
working on his doctoral dissertation in the PH.D. program in Theology at
Dusquesne University. Father Jason teaches courses in religious studies on the
university, college and seminary levels.
2) Avenues of Teaching the
Faith Through Life
The Very Rev. Protopresbyter Kenneth Bachofsky.
Father Ken will illustrate how the
Church, Herself, is an educator. Mention will be made of the various ways the
Church is viewed as an educator for all of her children, old and young alike.
Following the afternoon break, Father Ken will present a workshop using some of
the newest CDs available form the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. These CDs can be
used as valuable educational tools for the Church School and home alike.
Father Ken is a priest of the
American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese since his ordination in 1978 and is
currently pastor of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Warren, Ohio. Father Ken is
a graduate of Christ the Saviour Seminary and is currently workng on his
doctoral dissertation at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He is the Diocesan
Director of Christian Education and Instructor of Sacred Scripture at Christ the
Saviour Seminary.
