Eastern Christian Churches Offer Paschal Music Concert

MUNHALL, PA -- The Pittsburgh Byzantine Catholic Archieparchial Choir (PBCAC) will host "He Granted Life: Songs of Pascha," a celebration of sacred song. Planned in celebration of the most holy and glorious Feast of the Resurrection, the presentation, which will be held Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 3:00pm at the Byzantine Catholic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 210 Greentree Road, Munhall, PA, features the PBCAC and choirs of several Pittsburgh area Orthodox churches.

In 2010, since the Eastern and Western calendars coincide for the observance of Pascha (Easter, April 4), Metropolitan Archbishop Basil M. Schott of the Metropolitan Archeparchy of Pittsburgh envisioned a joint celebration of music of the Feast. Invitations were issued to Eastern Christian church choirs from the Greater Pittsburgh area to consider participating in the event. In addition to the PBCAC, choirs from the following churches are scheduled to participate:

* St Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral (Allison Park)

* St George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral(Pittsburgh)

*St Nicholas Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church (Homestead)

*Sts Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Carnegie).

Each choir will present songs repre-sentative of their respective traditions, several selections combining the voices of all choirs will bring the program to a memorable conclusion.

A hospitality reception will be held immediately following the free presentation.

Plenty of parking is available on the Cathedral grounds.
