Holy Transfiguration Consecration Part 1

Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Mission in Crawfordsville, Indiana celebrated the consecration of their newly constructed church on the weekend of November 6-7, 2010 which was presided over by His Grace, Bishop Daniel of the Western Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA , on behalf of His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas.

The festivities began with the celebration of Great Vespers and Litya on Saturday Evening, which was followed by a Fellowship meal in the parish hall. Sunday Morning began with the celebration of the Consecration of the Church which was followed by Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and a celebratory banquet.

The holy relics of St. Athanasios of the Kiev Caves, brought by His Grace Bishop Daniel, sits expectantly in front of the iconostasis of Holy Transfiguration Church Saturday evening. These relics will be placed permanently in the altar table during Sunday’s consecration service.

Fr. Joel Weir, of St. Stephen’s church (OCA)in Crawfordsville, joined the Holy Transfiguration community in celebrating Vespers and a Litya Saturday evening.

The icon of the Holy Transfiguration as well as the Panagia Platytera (of the Virgin Mary) were commissioned and installed in anticipation of the consecration, by the hand of Fr. Jerome Sanderson.

Bishop Daniel celebrates Vespers with the parish of Holy Transfiguration. The icon of St. John Maximovich of San Francisco was completed at the same time as the Holy Transfiguration icon, by Fr. Jerome Sanderson. St. John is the church’s patron saint.
Fr. Samuel Sherry, dean of the Chicago deanery, travelled from the north suburbs of Chicago to celebrate the weekend’s services with the Holy Transfiguration parish.
