Archbishop Dimitri of The Orthodox Church in America Reposes in the Lord

DALLAS, TEXAS  - [Diocese of the South OCA]  His Eminence, Archbishop Dimitri (Royster) retired Archbishop of Dallas and the Diocese of the South of the Orthodox Church in America, fell asleep in the Lord at his home here at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning, August 28, 2011. His Eminence, The Archbishop was eighty-seven years old. Ordained in 1954, then consecrated to the episcopacy in 1969, his ecclesial ministry spanned fifty-seven remarkable years.

His Eminence, Archbishop Dimitri was known as a gentle and loving archpastor who showed great care for the clergy and the faithful in his charge. He was a prolific writer and being himself a convert to the Orthodox Faith, had a deep committment to mission and evangelization. Archbishop Dimitri was especially known for his pioneering work in translating the liturgical texts of the Orthodox Church into Spanish.
