WINDBER, PA -- On Sunday, March 24, 2013, clergy from multiple jurisdictions in the Greater Johnstown Area took part in the Sunday Of Orthodoxy Vespers Service hosted by Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Windber, PA. The Very Reverend Protopresbyter Fr. Frank Miloro, dean of Christ the Saviour Cathedral was the main celebrant for the service. My beloved Faithful of the Diocese: As we begin the Great Lenten Season, I wanted to share with you a few thoughts so that we may journey through the season and approach Pascha with the proper frame of mind. In the hymn of Cheese Fare Vespers we hear, Let us set out with joy upon the season of the fast preparing ourselves for spiritual combat. Let us purify our souls and cleanse our bodies. As we fast from food let us also fast from every evil, rejoicing in the virtues of the spirit. Let us persevere with love and so be deemed worthy to venerate the passion of Christ our God and with great spiritual gladness to behold His Holy Resurrection. Read more...

Bishop Gregory To Preside Over Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers in Perth Amboy

JOHNSTOWN -- The Diocesan Chancery is pleased to announce that His Grace, Bishop Gregory will preside over the Sunday of Orthodox Vespers on Sunday, March 24th at our Diocesan St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, located on 145 Broad Street in Perth Amboy, NJ. The service will begin at 4 PM. Bishop Gregory will also deliver the homily. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the clergy and laity of the Central New Jersey region to hear His Grace preach the Word and to meet him informally in the Fellowship Hour that will follow Vespers. Miles Zdinak, Diocesan representative to the Orthodox Christian Fellowship Campus Ministry, has arrived at St. John the Compassionate Mission in Toronto, Canada where he is serving as the leader of an Orthodox Christian Fellowship sponsored Real Break Trip. NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Underscoring the conviction of His Grace, Bishop Gregory of Nyssa that our youth are not the future of the Church, but rather are full members from the moment of their baptism, Alex Righetti, a member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Ambridge, PA and a third year student at the University of Pittsburgh has decided this Spring Break to offer his time and talents to help others in need. This week Alex has been a part of an Orthodox Christian Fellowship College Ministry Real Break Service team that has been dispatched to New Orleans to work with International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) and Habitat for Humanity to rebuild several homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
