Johnstown, PA [Diocesan Chancery] -- Very Rev. Protopresbyter Luke Mihaly, Pastor of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of Danbury, CT and Dean of the New England Deanery, is presently leading an Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) Real Break Trip to St. Nicholas Children's Home in Mezilaborce, Slovakia, which is taking place through March 15, 2015. The St. Nicholas Children’s Home was constituted in 1994 by the Orthodox Church in Presov. In that same year, the St. Nicholas Children’s Home also established a special kindergarten. Read more...

Kulis Foundation To Offer Scholarship To Diocesan Students!

JOHNSTOWN, PA -- The Diocesan Chancery has been informed that the Kulis Foundation is again offering six (6) different scholarship programs for the 2015-2016 academic year to Diocesan Students. This year, the scholarship programs will provide over $450,000 in available scholarship funds for eligible students. In 2014 13 Diocesan Students and Seminarians were recipients of scholarships. JOHNSTOWN, PA The Diocesan Chancery has learned that Fr. Matthew Baker, former Christ the Saviour seminarian and parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Manassas, Virginia, and Pastor of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Norwich, CT, was tragically killed in a car accident on March 1, 2015 during an evening snow storm, while on the way home from celebrating the Triumph of Orthodoxy Vespers. Advent Mission Project Is A Huge Success!

JOHNSTOWN, PA [National Sr. ACRY] --- Through the generosity of numerous Sr. ACRY chapters and parishes throughout the diocese, the National Sr. ACRY is pleased to announce that their first annual Diocesan Advent Mission Project has been a huge success. To date, over $3700.00 has been collected to benefit Diocesan mission parishes. Funds collected will be used to assist our Diocesan mission parishes that are in need of various liturgical articles and supplies. The National Sr. ACRY is currently working closely with the Diocesan Chancery to address the significant needs of our mission parishes. Read more...

2015 Lenten Youth Project To Benefit St. John the Compassionate Mission

JOHNSTOWN, PA -- With the blessing of His Grace, Bishop Gregory, the National Junior ACRY, as in previous years, has taken it upon itself to aid the Diocesan ministry of Saint John the Compassionate, located in the inner city of Toronto, Ontario. The National Junior ACRY has renewed its ongoing effort to assist in the work of Saint John the Compassionate. This renewed commitment was affirmed at the National Convention in Chicago this past summer. One again members of the Junior ACRY had the opportunity to visit the Mission this past summer and experience the labors of love that take place there each and everyday. Read more...

Archpastoral Letter For Family Camp 2015

His Grace, Bishop Gregory has issued the following Archpastoral Message regarding the upcoming Family Camp: Our Diocese is pleased to offer our third annual Family Camp at Camp Nazareth this year in conjunction with Family Day. The event is exactly what it sounds like. Families “camping” together in the Camp cabins and participating in a weekend of services, games, discussions, activities and challenges that are all designed to help families deepen their relationship with God and with one another. Encourage them to come, and, if you are able, come yourselves with your families. Last year we had 10 Families and a total of 36 participants. We had a wonderful time together and look forward to being together again this year. Read more...

JOHNSTOWN, PA -- With the setting of the sun and the celebration of Forgiveness Vespers this evening, the season of The Great Fast has been ushered in throughout our God-Saved Diocese and the entire Orthodox Church. This Holy Season, as His Grace, Bishop Gregory has reminded us in his Lenten Archpastoral Letter, " is a time for self-examination and self-denial. We must take control of our lives and bodies with fasting in order to gain a greater awareness of our dependence on and relationship with God." My beloved Faithful Clergy and Laity of our God-Protected Diocese: As we begin Great Lent this year on February 23rd, I want to share with you a few thoughts so that we may journey through this reflective period and arrive at the Great Feast of Pascha spiritually uplifted to receive the Resurrected Christ. This journey is a time for self-examination and self-denial. We must take control of our lives and bodies with fasting in order to gain a greater awareness of our dependence on and relationship with God.
