2011 Holy Land Pilgrimage Days 1-3

With the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas, of blessed memory, a Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, led by Very Rev. Dr. Edward Pehanich, departed on Monday May 9, from Pittsburgh, PA with 32 Diocesan clergy and faithful in attendance. During the course of the pilgrimage the faithful will visit all of the holy sites associated with the life of our Lord Jesus Christ including the site of the Annunciation in Nazareth, the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem where an Orthodox Church has been built over the cave of the Lord's birth, Cana where our Lord worked his first miracle, the Mount of Beatitudes, the Jordan River and Mt. Tabor: the site of the Transfiguration.

Posted Pictures show scenes from Days 1-3 of the pilgrimage.

Monday and Tuesday (May 9-10) were essentially travel days. On Wednesday May 11, the pilgrims travelled up the coastline to the ancient Roman city of Caesarea, viewing the harbor where St. Paul was imprisoned and taken to Rome. They then proceeded to Cana to the Greek Orthodox Church at the site of where Jesus's first miracle of changing the water to wine took place. Then, they were off to Nazareth to St. Mary's well, where the Annunciation took place.
