Groundbreaking Ceremony, St. Elizabeth Mission, Woodstock, Georgia
A bold program of missions and evangelization was initiated within the diocese in 1992, known as "Harvest 2000." The goal of Harvest 2000 was to establish new mission parishes, foster more vocations to the Holy Priesthood and renew the spiritual life of our existing parishes. As a result, new mission parishes have been established in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Ontario, Canada. Through the generous support of diocesan faithful, a diocesan mission fund exists to seed the formation of new mission parishes.
Moved by the Holy Spirit at 21st Diocesan Council (Sobor) in July of 2009, His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas announced his intention to establish a Diocesan Mission Commission, to re-energize domestic missionary activity within the diocese. In August of 2009, Very Rev. Protopresbyter Michael Rosco was appointed the chairman of this new commission. It has been tasked with task of supporting the growth and development of current and future mission parishes and equipping the clergy and faithful of the diocese to foster spiritual renewal on the personal and parish levels.
We invite and encourage you to help support our diocesan mission parishes.
