St Elizabeth Mission - Atlanta, Georgia
About St Elizabeth's Mission
St. Elizabeth Orthodox Mission of the American
Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the U.S.A. was founded in 1998 with the
blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, to serve North Georgia. The Mission was incorporated in the State of
Georgia in 2006 and has grown to 32 active members. We have raised nearly $165,000 in our
building fund and are making the initial steps toward building the permanent
St. Elizabeth Orthodox Church. In the interim, we have been meeting for Sunday
Divine Liturgy at various locations, including a restaurant, a bank, the chapel
at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Marietta, and, most recently, in the
chapel of the Woodstock Funeral Home, Woodstock, GA. The last is a location
much closer to our building site which is located about four miles northeast of
Woodstock. Weekday Liturgies are served in a small chapel located in the home
of our priest. St. Elizabeth's Outreach
Program is working extensively with local media to advertise our presence in
Cherokee County, GA, as well as work in two local academic institutions:
Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, GA,; and Berry College, Rome, GA. Our goal
is to help establish OCF groups in each place.
Other outreach projects are planned.
Mission Needs
Our previous priests Fr. John Zboyovsky, Fr. Robert
Prepelka, and Fr. Paul Stoll have seen to it that we are well-supplied with
liturgical items. However, our current
need is to replace our (old) red diocesan liturgy books (most of which are
falling apart in our hands!) with the blue liturgy books currently in use. We are appreciative of all support,
especially the prayers and intercessions on our behalf by all of our ACROD
brothers and sisters and for the number of inscribed bricks that have been
purchased in support of our building fund by the members of the diocese. Remember: you can always purchase more! See our newsletter and website for order
forms!
